There is a realm of time where the goal is not to have but to be, not to own but to
give, not to control but to share, not to subdue but to be in accord… It is the state
wherein man lies still, wherein the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are
at rest. It is the state in which there is no strife and no fighting, no fear and no
distrust. The essence of good life is menuha.

— Abraham Joshua Heschel, The Sabbath
[Menuha is the Hebrew word for God’s rest on the 7th Day of creation.]

In the Jewish tradition, God is not doing nothing on the seventh day of creation, God is creating a time of rest and delight in creation. The past two years have often required inactivity, but an inactivity accompanied by stress and worry. How do we carve out times of rest, play and celebration which might restore us to do the work which calls us? This retreat will give time to reflect on our practices and create a place for delight in creation and one another.
