Ohio Valley Yearly Meeting adopted this minute on “Defense of Marriage” amendments at the 2004 session.
Friends affirm that there is that of God in each person regardless of race, creed, national origin, or sexual orientation. Further, Friends consider marriage primarily a spiritual relationship. OVYM opposes attempts to add discriminatory “Defense of Marriage” laws, including amendments to federal and state constitutions. Such laws would preempt public dialogue. We affirm that discriminatory laws and amendments are contrary to our understanding of the spirit of God’s love.”
